Bio
I began building custom furniture and cabinetry in the early 1980's. For the most part I am self trained, although there are many craftsman that have influenced me over the years. I hope that I have been able to take what I value in other's work and add my own touch to produce unique pieces.
Crafting custom furniture, from initial design to final finish, can be very difficult and time consuming. The challenge of working with a client to create a design that fits their needs and desires is very important. It is this collaboration that allows my work to truely be custom and is rewarding for not only myself but the client as well.
In 1988, looking for fresh challenges and ideas, I took a boatbuilding course from Simon Watts. This led to many years of involvement with small craft including five years as Resident Boat Builder at The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY. Since leaving the museum I have restored many St. Lawrence Skiffs and other small craft as well as continuing to craft custom furniture.
In the late 1990's my son, Erik, began working with me and has become an accomplished craftsman. He is constantly challenging me with new ideas and approaches. His creativity is an inspiration to me.
In the last few years I have developed an interest in turning. Creating beautiful objects on the lathe can be an exhilarating experience. Where building a furniture piece might take weeks or months to complete, a bowl takes hours. Each process has its own intensity and specific demands. And for me each can yield great rewards.
I consider myself lucky to have been able to spend my working life with a material that lends itself to so many uses. Some practical, some just beautiful.
I still build furniture, mostly by commission, but I hope my online offering of bowls and turned boxes will be of interest to you.

Care of Products
Proper use and care for all wood turnings, especially those used in the kitchen, is essential. With a little bit of maintenance and care a wooden bowl will last a lifetime. Please follow these rules to ensure the longevity of your bowls.
-Never wash in a dishwasher
-Never allow to soak in water
-Never microwave
-Hand wash and dry
-Occasionally reapply a food safe finish. I use Tried and True Danish Oil. This will help preserve the look and feel.
